Mei and Wen Chen opened Veggie Heaven in 1997 on Guadalupe and not far from UT’s campus. The menu featured vegetarian/vegan plates with an oriental flair, some so rich with flavor that it would even surprise meat lovers.
In December 2014, Mei Chen decided to retire. Her daughter, Stacey, decided to reopen her parents restaurant on 5th Street. The menu still features some favorites, like the Protein 2000, as well as some new menu items. The restaurant is also serving beer and wine for the first time.
